Self-Discovery Through Poetry™ is a journey through poetry, creativity and the exploration of the self.

Poetry has a remarkable capacity to reach those parts of our experience that ordinary language does not always capture. A memory, an unexpected image, a metaphor, a place that continues to return to us, or a few words written almost intuitively can reveal connections we had never consciously made.

This course invites you to approach poetry as a way of looking more deeply at your own experience. Through reading, reflection and writing, you will explore the many layers of identity, memory, relationships and imagination, while developing a more attentive relationship with your inner world and with the world around you.

You do not need previous experience of writing poetry. You need curiosity, openness and the willingness to follow language somewhere you may not have expected to go.

What to expect from this course

Self-Discovery Through Poetry™ grew from my own experience of poetry as a form of knowledge and from many years of writing, reading, translating and thinking about the relationship between language and human experience.

The course brings together poetry, philosophy, attention, imagination and creative practice. It begins by exploring the particular way in which poetry allows us to perceive and understand experience, and considers how language participates in the construction of identity, how the words we repeatedly use can influence the way we see ourselves, and how attention can bring us closer to memories, images, associations and thoughts that might otherwise pass unnoticed.

From these foundations, the course gradually enters some of the great territories of human experience. We consider the self in relation to others, the different dimensions of personality, the inner world, relationships and love, the places that shape us, beauty and art, mythology, change, hope, time and memory. Poetry becomes a way of moving through these subjects while remaining open to complexity, contradiction and discovery.

My own poems accompany parts of this journey, together with the work and ideas of poets, writers and thinkers who have approached similar questions from different perspectives. They provide points of departure from which you can begin to recognise your own questions and develop your own poetic language.

Reflection and writing exercises are woven throughout the course. Some begin with observation, others with memories, dreams, images, places, relationships or unexpected associations. Gradually, they create a personal archive of material from which writing can emerge. What matters is the process of paying attention to what returns, what changes, what creates resistance and, above all, what surprises you.

The course is open to experienced writers and to people who have never written a poem before. Poetry here becomes a space in which to explore experience without having to understand everything in advance, allowing language, imagination and intuition to participate in the process of discovery.

By the end of the course, you will have created a body of personal writing and developed practices that can continue far beyond these lessons, offering new ways of approaching creativity, attention and your evolving understanding of yourself.

Poetry can give form to what we already know, but some of its most interesting discoveries begin with what we do not yet know how to say.
